Milestones

Two in one week!

Only a day after she started school, Abra came skipping in from the yard this morning (she's off school for the next two days, while the other 2/3 of the Kindergarteners "stagger" their first day of school today and tomorrow, before everyone goes on Friday). She was holding her partially-eaten apple, and could not contain her excitement.

"Mom, mom! I have a loose tooth! I have a loose tooth!" Sure enough. Dad was relieved to know that I have been stashing dollar coins when I get them for this eventuality, so as not to be caught short and leave the tooth fairy with a deadbeat reputation.

My baby is growing up! Sniff sniff...

PTA Mom from Hell!

OK, so Abra finished her first quasi-day at Kindergarten yesterday. Went on about some deal regarding a popsicle party if you finish a blue paper and a yellow paper, and something or other. I still don't really know what she meant, but I assume an explanation is forthcoming.

Her first day of Kindergarten went well. The teacher said she did great, which was nice to hear though not unexpected. Of course there are 52 forms to fill out and board of education propaganda to read. And I'm thinking, you know, I should join the PTA. THE P-T-FREAKING-A!!!!!!! Heh. Well, you know, it could be fun....

Verklempt

So today we sent Abra off to Kindergarten. Today really is just an orientation for her. Things start for real on Friday. I think that had she been going to day care/preschool for the last 7 months instead of being at home, it might have been a little less emotional for me--just another day at the office. And I wasn't too bad, didn't cry or anything. But Dad and I were very proud and my heart did go up into my throat a time or two.

At the flag-raising ceremony, Abra mentioned rather loudly that she could hardly see a thing. Heh. She's all yours, Mrs. Murphy!

Will post a picture or two when I get them uploaded to my computer.

Uhhhh.....

So, today while engaged in a Very Important Activity, Thalia asked me, "Mom? Do spiders poop?" I said something about their bodies having to get rid of waste somehow but that I didn't really know whether they actually pooped or not.

Does anybody know the answer to that? Or do I have to use The Google?

Resume Blues

So it's been recently driven home to me that I definitely need to be back in the workforce. I've been employed basically my entire adult life, until I quit my job in January to move to Cleveland. Aside from whatever emotional baggage I bring to the whole business of being out of the paid workforce, which is my own baggage of course, there's just the fact that I don't like being a stay-home mom well enough to make an avocation of it. It's been a nice break this spring and summer, I admit. Some days it's fun, and I actually kind of enjoy grocery shopping, wasting time on the internet, and puttering around the house. But other days I just want to scream, and I find myself getting short-tempered with the girls when I'm around them all the time. And I'm just not that good at shoving enriching activities down their eager little throats all day. They've watched a lot more Sponge Bob than I care to admit. Plus, I just like being a lawyer--how messed up is THAT?

So, having taken the bar exam and awaiting its results, I have done my resume back up again. First time I've written up a resume in over 12 years. Starting the process of trying to figure out where to look for jobs I like, etc. etc. My darling husband has helped me first of all with offering proofreads and critiques, and then with getting the resume to a decent printer. So, I had a nice little stack of about a dozen resumes, ready to send out. I had in fact sealed up my first one, ready to mail it. And I was looking admiringly at another copy of the finished product.

And I found a comma at the end of one of my sentences instead of a period.

Grrrrrrrrrr.....

OK, I'm going to try this again....

My first experiment with blogging was extremely short-lived. However, I'm going to give it another try. I like messing around on blogger! It's kind of fun coming up with different templates, formats, etc. We'll see how this goes.

Today it's yet another rainy Saturday. Sigh. The first two months of the summer, we got almost no rain at all. Looking at our lawn you'd have thought we lived in Phoenix. But the weather, for the most part, was utterly beautiful--so gorgeous you could cry. Too bad I spent most of it stressing about the bar. Now that the bar exam is out of the way, and I had a few weeks of no studying before Abra starts Kindergarten, it rains seemingly every other day. Oh, well.

I will eventually get myself to where I can post pictures and other cute things like my tech-savvy husband does on his blog....
